If you think about it, filters exist just as much in "real life" as they do on social media. Obviously not in exactly the same way, or else I'd be rocking the black-and-white-and-sparkling look ALL THE TIME, but I digress. 😉⁠

These real-life filters can be visual - think about how you feel when you're in a place decorated for the holidays versus when it isn't, or how a fancy restaurant feels different than a fun night club - but they don't have to be. ⁠

Think about how you have a song you can't help but dance and sing along with and how good you feel when you're blasting it. 🎵 Or how tasting a favorite food or smelling a familiar scent can bring back pleasant memories. 🍦⁠

Have you ever tried leveraging these experiences to improve your mood? I know I find it amazing that I can go from feeling hopeless to feeling hopeful all in the span of a song. And it's such a simple thing! ⁠

I've been learning recently that some of the biggest impacts we can make on our own lives come from simple things. It's asking ourselves the right questions throughout the day, listening to the right music, watching the right videos. It's not always EASY to remember to do something in the thick of a bad emotion, but it's often SIMPLE to get out of it once we do. ⁠

Happy New Year's, everyone! 🎉⁠

I've been pretty quiet recently, doing a lot of planning, reading, learning. As happy as I am seeing how all of my friends have leveled up over the last year and last decade, it really made me think about how much -more- I want for my own life. ⁠
⁠
I could let what I see everyone else posting make me feel bad, but instead, I've been choosing to see them as examples of what's POSSIBLE. It's a decision I have to keep making over and over, but I'm hoping with time, this will be automatic.⁠
⁠
Our perspective is everything, so I'm trying to see things in a positive/empowering way as often as possible. As an example of this, the other day I was worried I was annoying a friend because I was sending them a lot of Snapchats throughout the day, although they were busy and not opening them. I felt so bad that when they DID see them, I apologized for sending so many, for them just to tell me, "Don't be sorry, I loved them all!"⁠
⁠
I made up a story that didn't feel good ("they're going to be so annoyed to see all these snaps"), instead of one that was more neutral/optimistic ("Snapchats only take seconds to look at, plus they're fun! The whole POINT is to send them!")⁠

✨ I want to create some kind of Joy / Gratitude / Self-care challenge starting in November! What would you be interested in? ✨⁠

So lately, my depression has been hitting me pretty strong. Recent life changes haven't helped, and overall I've been feeling pretty useless and numb to the world. It's less a sadness and more of a "blankness." ⁠
⁠
I know this time of year, as the days get shorter, a lot of people start to feel down, too. Whether they experience Seasonal Affective Disorder or just miss the daylight, it seems several people have their moods affected.⁠
⁠
I want to start incorporating more positive momentum of some kind into my days, and I'd love to create a challenge and have you guys join me! Here are some of my ideas:⁠
⁠
💜 Keep a running list of "Good things that happened" every day for a set amount of days. This is an activity that has really helped me in the past, because usually even "crappy" days have a lot of good in them!⁠
💜 Create daily journal prompts. I find that journaling helps me clear my head, and good journaling prompts can really help facilitate that for those days where "free writing" just isn't going to happen.⁠
💜 Daily prompts for a new simple habit to try (such as drinking more water, meditating, etc.) so you can try a bunch of things and see which feel good to try!⁠
💜 ...perhaps some combination of the above?!⁠

Tarot for the week of September 9th, 2019. This week, we drew The Queen of Wands, the Five of Wands, and The Moon. This week, we may be feeling a little disoriented and our world chaotic, but if we focus on our passions and our instincts, we'll learn a lot and make it through! 👑The Queen of Wands is charismatic and compassionate. She's warm, energetic, and generous. She's encouraging us to follow our instincts in this week ahead. Give freely to others when it feels right, and don't discard your independence for anyone. You are the only one who truly knows what you need! 🔥The Five of Wands indicates some level of chaos happening in our lives at this time. There's no "right" answer whether it's better to retreat or hold your ground - you must follow your instincts here. This can also indicate that something in your life requires a new direction, or that something is vying for your attention. Stay sharp and keep your wits about you, and you'll make it through! 🌕The Moon is a card signaling our intuition and unconscious minds. Depending on how intune you are with yourself, you might feel disoriented and confused. The moon is asking us to examine our thoughts, feelings, habits, and beliefs critically - this is a good time to come to terms with what we may wish to change about ourselves, as we'll be intuitive enough to figure out what we need to do to make the changes we seek.

All of these cards together give some solid advice for this week: trust your instincts!

Okay, I'm the first to admit: when you're feeling shitty, love and appreciation are probably the last things on your mind. If anything, you're probably thinking, "no one loves or appreciates ME." 💁⁠

But when you're feeling awful, look around. What can you appreciate? What (or who) do you love? 💗⁠

If you STILL find yourself having thoughts like, "who cares, everything sucks anyway," try taking things away. If you didn't have the couch or chair you're sitting on, how would you feel? If you had no phone? If the power goes out? If you couldn't reach for your pet? If you couldn't reach at all? 💔⁠

In the manifestation and self-help community, there's a lot of talk to make sure you don't put your focus on what you don't want. And, for the most part, I agree - it's *usually* better to focus on what you want.🔮⁠

But sometimes, you won't change until things get so uncomfortable that you HAVE to change. Sometimes, we don't realize what we've got until it's gone.😞⁠

Sometimes, we feel so bad that we don't "see" the good. But I promise you, it's there. And if you start looking for it, you'll start to notice the many, many things you have going for you in a given moment. And you will - perhaps slowly, but inevitably - begin to feel better.☺️⁠

The Magician is one of my favorite cards in tarot! He reminds us that we have everything we need to create the lives we want to live - notice how he wields all four suits of the tarot? To make magic requires some level of talent and skill, but it also requires faith in the unknown. Trust in your dreams, put your heart into your efforts, and you will have no trouble bringing your idea to life!⁠

The Ten of Coins is a sign of stability, of abundance, and of prosperity. You've completed a journey to get here, and it's time to enjoy it! At the same time, reflect on how you made it here and be grateful for all you have around you. Remember: abundance comes in more forms than just money, and the more you appreciate all the forms of abundance in your life, the more you will receive all forms of abundance.⁠

The Seven of Swords is an interesting card, as it denotes a risky endeavor. Whether this is an act of bravery or an act of dishonesty, only you will know for sure. However, in the presence of these other two cards with a more optimistic meaning, I'm inclined to think that we're being asked to be brave this week. Something will come up, tense and unexpected, and you might need to grab the swords by the blades. Today I found myself feeling scared, worried, and guilty. I have new opportunities to make money, and I found my first thoughts were, "okay this is good, but how the hell am I gonna get enough money for ALL THESE THINGS" instead of feeling GRATEFUL for the money I had coming to me. I feel like it's so easy for us as humans to swing to either extreme: either we feel our lives are good, or we feel like nothing is going right. And many times, it's too easy to just assume if things are okay now, it's just a matter of time before something goes wrong. So we dismiss our good fortune. Instead of enjoying it, we kinda begrudge its existence because we feel it won't last. It's not enough, we want MORE. 💁⁠

The truth is, no matter what we do, life WILL have its ups and downs. Even those who appear to be "positive vibes only!!!" all the time have their moments, trust me! But, we do not have to allow our fears to diminish the joys in life. It can be difficult to redirect our thoughts to the positive, to be optimistic and grateful, but we miss out on so much if we don't try! 🌉⁠

Please don't misunderstand me: I think all of our emotions (good and bad) are important, but there's also a difference between "feeling the feels" to process them and just lingering on them. 🧘‍♀️⁠

Be grateful for what you have. Stop and appreciate everything as often as you can, no matter how small. There's a reason gratitude is a PRACTICE - it takes effort to be consistent with it! But like drinking more water each day, exercise, meditation, or other beneficial practices, it's so so worth it when you put your best effort into it! 💖⁠
